35mm, around the world

argentina

the landscape

Argentina is a study of geographical extremes. The terrain spans from northern jungles and high-altitude deserts to the tectonic scale of the southern glaciers - a rare breadth of natural contrast within a single border.

A raw, visible energy defines the national spirit. This is found everywhere, from the architectural wonder of Buenos Aires, to the intensity of a crowd at La Bombonera, and the rapid movement of tango, danced on street corners.

the discovery

Exploring Argentina requires a constant shift in perspective. Moving between such vast, contrasting environments reveals a land of endless compositions -each demanding a deliberate, structural approach to the 35mm frame.

bolivia

the landscape

At an elevation of 4000 meters, Bolivia presents an otherworldly, high-altitude environment. The Salar de Uyuni provides a vast, geometric expanse of salt flats that challenges the perception of scale. It is a landscape of unique, surreal quality.

Unlike much of Latin America, Bolivia retains a majority indigenous population. Having withstood the pressures of colonisation, the community is defined by a resilient spirit and a deep, visible connection to their ancestral heritage and traditions.

central america

the landscape

Serving as a narrow land bridge between the Americas, Central America is defined by its raw, volcanic topography. The region is a dense collection of tropical ecosystems, encompassing active peaks, fruitful jungles, and crystal-clear lagoons that dictate a unique, wild pace of life.

the culture

The region is a living archive where the Mayan presence remains a foundational element. The contrast between the stone geometry of ancient temples and the vibrant, colorful architecture of Hispanic settlements creates a diverse landscape that feels profoundly alive and culturally layered.

the discovery

Traversing Central America is a study in chaotic transit and multiple border-crossings. Navigating the terrain via local chicken buses, volcanic trails, and speed boats, the discovery lies in the unpolished reality of the journey. It is an experience of unraveling the complex diversity and bountiful nature of adventure.

portugal

the landscape

Occupying a narrow coastal strip on Europe’s western edge, Portugal’s geography has much in variety.
Within its compact borders, the terrain transitions from the terraced vineyard valleys of the Douro to verdant northern forests and the dramatic, windswept Atlantic coastline.

the culture

The national identity is built on a legacy of voyage and exploration. In the urban centers of Lisbon and Porto, this history is visible in the architecture - a display of wealth and global influence reflected in intricate tilework, historic ports, and a culture that celebrates both discovery and a quiet, coastal elegance.

scotland

the landscape

Caledonia is a landscape of folklore and dramatic geometry. The rolling Munros of the Highlands evoke an atmosphere defined by scale and historic narrative, while the roads that traverse these glens offer some of the most picturesque perspectives on the planet.

the culture

We are a nation defined by authenticity and a distinct, dry humor. Characterised by a "what you see is what you get" mentality, the culture is one of heart. From pioneering inventors to world-class musicians, it is a society that values bravery and staying grounded.

the discovery

This is the foundation of my identity. Having lived in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, the discovery here is internal. You can leave, but Scotland stays with you, and no matter where I have travelled to around the globe, sometimes there's no place quite like home.

south africa

the landscape

Positioned at the southern tip of the continent, South Africa is defined by its vast, temperate geography.
From the rugged, wild coastlines of the Cape to the expansive biodiversity of its national game parks and the manicured beauty of its world-class wine valleys, the landscape is as diverse as it is breathtaking.

the culture

As the "Cradle of Humankind," South Africa holds a unique place in our global story. Its history is a complex tapestry, from ancient origins and the strategic importance during the Age of Discovery, to the painful legacy of Apartheid. Despite its ongoing challenges, the "Rainbow Nation" has passion and spirit that is truly infectious.

the discovery

My connection to South Africa is deeply personal; with my father hailing from Johannesburg, much of my identity as a 'Jockbok' belongs here. Though I have never lived in the country, a 2025 trip discovering my family roots brought that internal connection to the foreground. It was a transformative experience that leaves me longing to discover more.

This is a region of vast ecological extremes. From the dense, green jungles of the north to the sprawling volcanic archipelagos of the south, Southeast Asia has incredible natural beauty. It’s a place where ancient landscapes coexist with some of the world’s most hyper-modern, bustling metropolises.

the culture

The region’s identity is a rich, syncretic blend - a mix of indigenous roots with colonial influences.
While the religious landscape shifts from Buddhism to Islam, a shared sense of hospitality and respect remains constant. Despite the heavy influx of tourism, the local cultures remain grounded in their heritage.

the discovery

Having saved up in Australia to fund the trip, I experienced the legendary "Banana Pancake Trail" firsthand.

spain

the landscape

Geographically isolated by the Pyrenees, Spain is a country of stark beauty. Its terrain shifts dramatically from the rugged, emerald cliffs of the north to the sun-baked plains of the Meseta and the classic Mediterranean coast. It’s a land defined by these natural borders, offering a different world in every direction.

the culture

Spain’s true depth lies in its regionalism. Beyond the national identity, areas like Catalonia, Galicia, and the Basque Country maintain their own distinct languages and traditions. Yet, a common thread runs through them all: a profound respect for a balanced life, where siesta and fiesta are essential to the human experience.

the discovery

I’ve explored nearly every corner of the country, from the vibrant energy of Ibiza and Barcelona to the quiet peacefulness of the northwest. The most impactful of these journeys remains the Camino de Santiago - a pilgrimage that offers a deep, connection to the people, the cuisine, and the rhythm of Spanish life.
